New in Esri's Mobile Field Apps

First off, Esri’s apps for the fields are the following:

  • Collector for ArcGIS
  • Drone2Map for ArcGIS
  • Explorer for ArcGIS
  • Operations Dashboard for ArcGIS
  • Navigator for ArcGIS
  • Survey123 for ArcGIS
  • Workforce for ArcGIS
Now to business --- with major updates coming from Google and Apple in the latter part of 2018, have no fear since Esri is constantly testing new device hardware and new updates to mobile operating systems. Surely, major updates are coming soon to both the Android and Apple platforms  for the rest of 2018.

ANDROID

For Android users, Android Pie is the next major update to the Android OS (as of this writing, Android 9.0 Pie is now being served). Go here to learn more about Android Pie.

Devices that do not customize the Android OS, like the Pixel or Nexus, should have updates after Android Pie is released. Depending upon the amount of customization added by device manufacturers, it may take considerable time for updates to appear. We recommend you check with your hardware provider for details.

iOS

iOS 12 is Apple’s next big update and may be released much later than Android Pie, or by October at best. It is important to look at what devices are marked obsolete. Go here if your device is compatible with iOS 12.

My Esri Apps

ArcGIS Field Apps and Android P or iOS12

To assure ArcGIS field apps users, Esri tests and certifies each of its field apps. Here are the latest results:

July 24th 2018

  • iOS 12 beta 3 (16A5318d)
  • Android P beta 3 (Build number: PPP4.180612.004)

Apps tested and have passed certification on both platforms: Workforce, Explorer, Collector, and Navigator. To be updated on future testing updates, bookmark Jeff Shaner’s blog.

Survey123 for ArcGIS + Microsoft Flow

With the update last July 2018, Survey123 now supports Microsoft Flow. This makes Survey 123 for ArcGIS a part of the Microsoft Flow’s connector community.

Warren Wilbee, Senior Director, ISV Recruiting, Microsoft Corporation said “Microsoft is happy to add Esri’s Survey 123 to its growing collection of connectors for Microsoft Flow. Location Intelligence is an important feature for our mutual customers, and this integration allows access to location-based field data anytime, anywhere."

Microsoft Flow

Jeff Peters, Esri Director of Global Business Development said “our mobile users have been seeking a way to automate processes every time someone sends or submits data from Survey123. By becoming part of the connector community, valuable on-site information provided through Survey123 smart forms will be made instantaneously available for other connector apps and services like Box or Microsoft Outlook. As businesses look to create efficiencies, allowing the seamless coordination of these types of data will lead to improved coordination and increased productivity.”

Survey123 is Esri’s smart-form-data gathering solution and/or go-to field data collection while Flow is Microsoft’s cloud-service which enables users to easily build workflows to automate repetitive tasks across multiple apps and services.
